Party
Description: The
PPP or "Popular Party of Prostitutes" was
founded by Marie-Claire Charlebois of Montreal,
Quebec. The party platform is simple and
honest:
- An end
to all discrimination and hypocrisy in relation
to the sex trade.
- The
decriminalization of all sex work and respect
for the fundamental human rights, in particular
the right to safety and to dignity of all
those working in the sex trade.
- Proper
enforcement of existing laws concerning sexual
violence and economic exploitation of all
people.
Having
collected about 400 signatures for registration
purposes (the party is not registered with
Elections Canada), the party got some press
prior to election 2000. It is not clear whether
the party is active at present, or whether
it will be running any candidates. Solicitation
is illegal, though prostitution itself is not
and was not illegal at the time of forming
the PPP. Sex workers continue to be the victims
of violence and coercion.
